Switzerland Day 1

The next dozen or so posts are going to be recaps of my vacation to Switzerland and France - enjoy.

Our flights to Switzerland were relatively uneventful despite all the terrorist precautions. We flew from Redmond to Portland, then Portland to Frankfurt Germany, and then Frankfurt to Geneva Switzerland. Of course, our bikes didn't make the flight like we did. So, we filed a lost luggage claim, shoved our bags in a locker at the airport and headed out to explore Geneva. We walked all the way the to the lake, sightseeing and enjoying the great weather. That night we stayed in a hostel down by the lake and spent the next morning riding some free bikes around Old Town Geneva. I was skeptical at first because they wanted my to leave my passport and pay a $55 deposit which I would get back when I returned the bike. I refused to leave the passport, but paid the deposit. It was nice to be able to ride around because we could go further and explore more than the day before when we were on foot. Here are some of the fabulous sights.

Here I am on the free bike. Woohoo

Cause I'm a cowgirl baby.

You can't visit Geneva without taking a picture or the Jet d'eau. The jet shoots 500 litres of water per second, and 140 meters high

These little motorcylces cracked me up! We sooo should have rented one. They are so cute!

The nice part about Switzerland is they had these running drinking fountains we could fill our camelbacks up with often.

Our plan was to leave our big bike boxes at the house of someone we knew, and then take a drop bag full of stuff we wanted for the second part of our trip to the train station in Martigny, Switzerland where the train for Chamonix starts. So, later that day we called and the bikes had been driven out to their house already. Excellent, because then we didn't have to drag as much stuff around. The train ride to Mies was quick and we were at the house before long. We put the bikes together and off we went for our Swizterland tour.

More to follow.
