Drunk dog?

Guess how we spent 3:15 till about 5:00am this morning? We awoke to one of the dogs making a lot of noise down on the floor. It was the beagle. She kept falling and rustling about. When we turned the light on we found her sitting on the floor unable to stand up and walk. Her head was tilted to one side and her eyes were moving back and forth from side to side quickly and rolling around in her head. Derek thought she was having/had a stroke so we took her to the emergency clinic. Turns out she has Vestibular Disease aka Old Dog Syndrome, which isn’t all that rare apparently. It basically makes them seem drunk, and is kind of like vertigo. She will get better gradually over the next week, but it could hit again any time. Pretty scary.

Poor old dog! Hey haven't seen you guys in a while. How's life?

We had an old dog with that disease. It wasn't much fun to watch, but she really seemed no worse for the wear.

Sounds like one of my cats - I thought they only had nine lives but I think Chelsee is on her 20th

The same sort of thing happened to our dog - except she had eaten MUSHROOMS growing in our yard! She was really loopy and could barely stand up, she was walking into walls, and couldn't see straight. When we called the vet the next morning to see how she was doing, they said she had been hallucinating all night!

This happened to Syd and he was almost back to normal after about a week or so. It never hit him again.
