Great, Outside Magazine included Bend as one of 20 dream places to live. I really don't want Bend to grow anymore. I'm happy with it the way it is. I like being able to go for dinner wherever I want and not have to wait for an hour, I like being able to get a table at The Taco Stand for lunch every Friday, I like that there isn't too much traffic. Dammit, I like Bend the way it is. Rant off.
Today Derek and I went for a good long mountain bike ride and then we walked around downtown to check out Summer Fest. Boy, it sure is summer out - I saw 91 degrees as we walked by the thermometer board outside the bank today. This view should cool you off though.
Tomorrow I'm taking my big bike to Willamette Pass to do some lift assisted riding!

I know some people that said 25,000 people was enough, some others that said 50,000 was enough. You just moved here, so it's a little quick to be complaining about the newcomers, don't you think?
It's never too early to complain about newcomers. This place has grown almost 22,000 since I moved here two years ago. That's so fast.
Have you ever considered that there are probably people that are complaining about you moving here? You just arrived and you you want to close the door behind you. There is more than a little hypocrisy in that attitude.
Heidi, you have nothing to apologize for. Everyone has the right to their thoughts. You, and even "Anonymous," unfortunately. However, anonymous messages are like someone flapping their lips with no sound. Anyone who doesn't have the courage to identify themselves when flaming someone, well ... they're not worth the effort. Those comments are usually just thrown in the garbage. And that's what you should do with this one. Pathetic really, that someone is hiding behind anonymity to flame you. Shame on them.
And hey, Anonymous? If you don't like what this blog says, um, here's a novel idea...DON'T READ IT! Hmm...
Hey Heidi, I think anonymous is probably joking, maybe just tryiing to start something. I mean, the idea that someone can't be concerned about something until a specified time period??? That's ridiculous! Maybe that's why our Presidents serve 2 terms now - because they aren't allowed to be concerned or have qualms the first term because they haven't been around long enough. HA! That idea is simply moronic.
Some people got upset because I posted anonymously, I can understand that. I did so because even after all of the growth, this is still a small town and its surprising who knows who. I will try to make my point a little more diplomatically.
This town has grown very rapidly in the past 30 years and especially in the last 5. And like it or not, it will continue to grow. I have many friends who have lived here all or most of their lives. This growth has made some very wealthy, but it has also pushed some out because they can no longer afford it. I have friends and neighbors who moved here 30 years ago and complain about the "newcomers" (anyone who came here after they did). The same thing goes for the people who came here 15 years ago, and 5 years ago as well. No one thinks fondly of the recession days when the mills were closing.
More growth has brought traffic, crowds, higher prices, and some sprawl. But it also continues to bring more and better restaurants, night life, more breweries, culture, stores, higher paying jobs and a better selection of breakfast cereals. This town could not support all the bike shops (7 with 1 mile of my house 2 more within 3) without additonal riders moving in.
My point was not to flame Heidi, but to point out that while she resents anyone else moving here, there are some who resent her for her recent arrival. And some who resent them because they got here after they did. My buddy, who is part of the Wasco tribe, would find this thread amusing. It's a beautiful place to live and there will be more people coming here for the exact same reasons that Heidi did.
After everyone is done flaming me for another anonymous post, give the above some thought.
30 to 40 minute waits sure beat an hour eh?
